Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted an agreement on the foundations of relations between Russia and Burkina Faso to the State Duma for ratification.
The agreement, signed in Moscow on Feb. 12, 2026, by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, provides a framework for expanding bilateral cooperation.
It covers political dialogue, security and the fight against terrorism and crime, as well as military and military-technical cooperation.
The two countries also plan to deepen cooperation in trade and investment, industry, energy, mining, agriculture, transport, information technology, health, culture, sports and tourism.
The submission to the State Duma marks another step toward formalising the expanding Russia–Burkina Faso partnership. (Afr Initiative/GSF)
