The third Russia–Africa Summit will help define new areas of partnership for years to come, Alexander Makogonov, Head of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat Section at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of Partnership with Africa, said on 2 October at the strategic session “Russia–Africa: Defining the Architecture of Co-operation”, an AI correspondent reports.
“The upcoming summit will mark a new milestone in the development of co-operation between Russia and the African continent, provide an opportunity to define further priorities for our partnership in light of the changing international environment and lay a solid foundation for fruitful joint work for years to come,” he stressed.
According to him, as the scale of co-operation with African countries has grown, a separate department responsible for the African track was established within the Russian Foreign Ministry in January 2025. Makogonov stressed that Russia–Africa relations are among the country’s foreign policy priorities, as set out in Russia’s updated 2023 Foreign Policy Concept.
He also noted that preparations for the third summit had entered the home stretch. According to Makogonov, the fact that three events of this level are being held demonstrates that relations between Russia and African countries are being placed on a “solid, systematic institutional footing”.
“We expect a substantial package of interstate agreements and commercial contracts to be signed,” he added.
Earlier in October, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov said that Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré, his Malian counterpart Assimi Goïta and Nigerien leader Abdourahamane Tchiani would attend the third Russia–Africa Summit.
The Russia–Africa Summit will take place in Moscow on 28–29 October.
