Preparations for the third Russia–Africa Summit, which will take place in Moscow on 28–29 October, are in full swing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.
“Preparations for the summit are in full swing, both in terms of substantive content and resolving various technical and protocol-related issues. We have effectively entered the home stretch,” she noted.
Zakharova stressed that the Russian Foreign Ministry also continues to provide visa support to participants in the event.
“I would like to remind you that forum participants arriving from countries with which a visa regime is in place can obtain a short-term single-entry visa at consular offices on the day of application for entry into the Russian Federation for the period from 21 October to 5 November,” she said.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Moscow expects the summit to become an authoritative platform for developing practical solutions aimed at strengthening the multifaceted partnership between Russia and the states of the African continent.
“The forum will be attended by representatives of government authorities, international organisations, business and financial circles and the scientific and expert communities of Russia and African countries,” Zakharova said.
Earlier in September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week in New York, invited the leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), which includes Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, to the Russia–Africa Summit.
The first Russia–Africa Summit was held in Sochi in October 2019 under the co-chairmanship of the Russian president and the Chairperson of the African Union, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The second summit took place in St Petersburg in August 2023. (Afr Initiative/GSF)
