The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has described the China-aided ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja as a stellar example of South-South cooperation in the new era, demonstrating the strength of mutual cooperation between China and African countries.

Ambassador Yu stated this in his remarks during the commissioning of the China-aided new headquarters building in Abuja on Wednesday. He noted that China’s firm support for the regional bloc demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding regional peace and promoting economic development within ECOWAS member states.
The envoy expressed China’s readiness to continue working with African countries under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to advance high-quality practical cooperation and jointly pursue the dream of modernization.
In their addresses, top dignitaries at the occasion expressed sincere appreciation to the Chinese government for its invaluable support to West African countries. They highlighted that the official commissioning of the edifice marks an important milestone in the history of ECOWAS and will effectively bolster West African integration, development, and prosperity.
The dignitaries included H.E. Senator Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; H.E. President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone and Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government; and H.E. Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission.
Over 400 other participants, including representatives of ECOWAS member states, diplomatic envoys in Nigeria, representatives of Chinese enterprises, and members of the media, were present at the event. (GSF)
