Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for broader study and application of the development experience of Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang Province, highlighting it as a successful model for local economic growth. He emphasized that Yiwu’s rise through its small commodities market demonstrates how regions can develop industries suited to their own conditions.
Xi stressed the need for all regions to leverage their unique resources and pursue high-quality development paths. Known as the “world’s supermarket,” Yiwu hosts the largest wholesale market for small goods, trading with over 230 countries and regions. In 2025, Yiwu ranked first among China’s county-level regions in export value, reinforcing its role as a key indicator of global small commodity trade.
