There is no policy by the current administration to increase electricity tariffs beyond their present levels, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has said.
Speaking in Lagos on Friday, Tegbe stated that the Federal Government’s immediate priority is not tariff increases, but improving electricity service delivery, achieving universal metering, and ensuring that Nigerians pay only for the electricity they consume.
“There is no policy by this administration to increase electricity tariffs beyond the current level. Our priority is not tariff increase in the immediate term,” the minister said.
Tegbe emphasized that the Federal Government would continue to explore additional mechanisms to protect vulnerable consumers while simultaneously improving the financial sustainability of the electricity market.
“Resetting the sector is not about buzzwords. It is about execution, discipline, coordination, and measurable outcomes,” he added.
According to the minister, government will measure the success of its reforms by the improvements experienced in the daily lives of Nigerians.
He noted that the administration’s ambition has always been clear: to provide reliable electricity that powers homes, competitive electricity that drives industries, and a sustainable and inclusive power sector that attracts investment and delivers benefits to every Nigerian.
He assured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to building an electricity sector that is efficient, sustainable, and capable of meeting the nation’s growing energy needs. (GSF)
