China and Spain have agreed to deepen cooperation during a high-level meeting in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez as both leaders warned of growing instability in the international system.

Xi in his remarks described the global order as “crumbling,” while Sánchez called for stronger Europe–China relations to defend multilateralism. The talks come as several Western leaders seek closer engagement with Beijing despite ongoing trade and security tensions and shifting U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump. Both sides discussed expanding trade, including agricultural exports, and improving transport and infrastructure cooperation.

China also agreed to measures aimed at reducing Spain’s large trade deficit. Also, PM Sánchez is expected to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and sign multilateral agreement covering economic and sectoral cooperation during their meeting. (GSF)
