Joseph Tegbe, the recently confirmed Minister of Power, has outlined five priorities aimed at ensuring a stable electricity supply across Nigeria.
Global South Focus reports that following his Senate confirmation on Wednesday, Tegbe issued a statement on Thursday listing five priority areas to address the nation’s power challenges. He described electricity as an essential commodity that his administration would take seriously.
His five priority areas are; to
1. Enhance gas supply to boost power generation capacity.
2. Improve grid infrastructure to enhance reliability and reduce outages.
3. Implement accountability measures in distribution companies.
4. Enhance the rollout of meters to customers.
5. Restore financial reliability across the sector.
Tegbe, an expert in fiscal and economic reform with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors, was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 30 as a minister of the federal government.
He previously served at KPMG Africa, where he led wide-ranging initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
Prior to his ministerial nomination, Tegbe was Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he was responsible for strengthening bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China. (GSF)
