World Data Organization (WDO) Inaugurated in Beijing

​BEIJING, March 30, 2026 – The World Data Organization (WDO) was officially established today during its inaugural assembly held in the Chinese capital.

The event, which brought together over 500 delegates including government officials, international organization representatives, and experts in the field of digital technology, marks a significant step forward in global cooperation on data governance and the digital economy.

Also in attendance was a Nigerian delegation that included Joseph Tegbe, Director-General of the Nigeria China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), alongside other senior government officials and representatives.

​Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the assembly. He read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and delivered a keynote speech.

​In his speech, Vice Premier Ding emphasized that the establishment of the WDO is a major milestone in responding to the trends of the digital era and deepening international collaboration on data.

He highlighted China’s commitment to data governance and the development of a digital economy, promising to further advance the “Digital China” initiative and enhance the utilization of data resources.

​Vice Premier Ding proposed three key areas for the WDO to focus on:
– ​Enhancing Data Liquidity: Developing global standards and rules to facilitate the efficient flow and use of data through international cooperation.
– ​Promoting Inclusive Development: Implementing the UN’s Global Digital Compact and encouraging joint research and application of digital technologies to ensure shared benefits.
– ​Strengthening Data Security: Creating international rules for digital governance that respect the interests of all parties and effectively combat cyber threats and data crimes.

​The WDO is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, unlocking the value of data, and fostering a prosperous global digital economy. As the world continues to navigate the complexities of the digital age, the organization’s efforts to promote secure and collaborative data practices will be more important than ever. (GSF)
