Nigeria has taken a significant step towards strengthening its digital economy with the signing of the National Sovereign Cloud Regulatory Instrument, a landmark framework designed to enhance data security, digital trust, and cloud governance across the country.
This was disclosed by the Galaxy Backbone Managing Director/CEO, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju after the signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja.
Representing Galaxy Backbone at the ceremony, Prof. Adeyanju, joined the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, and other distinguished stakeholders.
The event brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors committed to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The National Sovereign Cloud Regulatory Instrument establishes Nigeria’s national guidelines and governance framework for cloud adoption, cloud services, and supporting digital infrastructure. It provides a unified framework for cloud governance by setting clear standards for data classification, data sovereignty, cloud security, risk management, and investment promotion.
Professor Adeyanju described the framework as a major milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to build a trusted, secure, and resilient digital ecosystem capable of supporting government operations, businesses, and citizens.
He reaffirmed that as the Federal Government’s trusted provider of digital infrastructure and shared ICT services, Galaxy Backbone will continue supporting the implementation of policies and technologies that strengthen digital trust, safeguard national data assets, and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
The Galaxy Backbone CEO noted that the initiative will help lay the foundation for a smarter, more secure, and digitally connected Nigeria. (GSF)
