The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe had along with Power industry stakeholders flagged off the Power Force Programme, a national initiative under the Presidential Metering Initiative to train 5,000 young Nigerians as certified meter installation technicians.
According Tegbe, the initiative responds directly to one of the power sector’s most persistent structural challenges: the metering gap, and the consequent liquidity deficit.
He noted that where consumption cannot be accurately measured, revenue cannot be reliably collected; and where revenue is uncertain, investment declines and service delivery suffers.
“Meters do not install themselves. Behind every successful metering programme, there must be thousands of competent, certified and dedicated technicians.” the Minister stated.
He emphasized that beyond any impact on the power sector, Power Force is a direct investment in the people, creating employment, building future-ready technical skills, and supporting local content development for the 5,000 young Nigerians who will now form the backbone of Nigeria’s smart metering workforce.
He described the first cohort of trainees as the pioneers of Nigeria’s government-trained smart metering workforce. (GSF)
