Somalia and China Set to Strengthen Economic Co-operation

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in China for talks aimed at strengthening economic co-operation between the two countries. This was reported in the official X account of the prime minister.

During the visit, Hamza Abdi Barre will take part in the 7th China–Arab States Expo, as well as discuss with Chinese officials issues of strengthening trade partnership, investment opportunities and co-operation in the fields of technology, infrastructure and agriculture.

On 23 August, on the eve of his visit to China, the Somali prime minister met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Yi. During the meeting, prospects for bilateral co-operation were discussed. Hamza Abdi Barre thanked China for its support in the fields of politics, security, economic development and humanitarian assistance. The ambassador, in turn, emphasised that stable partnership relations had developed between the two countries and confirmed China’s intention to continue providing support to Somalia.

Earlier in August, Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali visited Algeria, where he discussed strengthening co-operation between the countries with Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui. (GSF)
