Senator Andrey Chernyshev, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, proposed holding the third Russia–Africa forum in Equatorial Guinea. He made this statement during his speech at the round table “Russia – Africa: current challenges”, organised by African Initiative.
“The summit in St Petersburg, held in 2023, was a great success. At that time, the President of Russia said that the next summit should be held in one of the African states. In my view, the active position of Equatorial Guinea <…> demonstrates their interest. I believe <…> that the readiness of the government of this country should be formalised <…> and that an appeal should be made to the [Russian] government to organise the summit in Equatorial Guinea,” Chernyshev noted.
The senator also recalled that the African country already has experience in hosting major events. In particular, in July 2025 a coordination meeting of the African Union (AU) was held in Malabo.
Chernyshev further stated that Russia already has a roadmap for restoring international relations with African countries, and in order to increase the effectiveness of interaction with the continent, in his view, the government should also develop a digital co-operation database, which would allow the efforts of different agencies in various spheres to be coordinated.
In June, President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in an interview with AI, spo ke about the advantages of holding the Russia–Africa summit in Malabo. END (African Initiative/GSF
