Russia considers Taiwan to be a part of China and opposes the island’s independence in any form, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with TASS.

He also stressed that the Taiwan issue is China’s internal affair, noting that “Russia’s principled position on the Taiwan issue is well known, unchanged, and has been repeatedly reaffirmed at the highest level.

The Russian side recognizes Taiwan as an integral part of China, opposes the island’s independence in any form,” Lavrov emphasized.

During the interview, Lavrov also touched on the issue of Japan, stating that Tokyo’s speeding up the militarization process needed to be carefully examined.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry advised the Japanese government to “carefully consider” its actions before making hasty decisions. “Lately, Japan’s leadership has really taken a course to accelerate the militarization of the country.

The devastating impact of such actions on regional stability is obvious. Japan should carefully weigh all options before making hasty decisions,” Lavrov concluded. (GSF)
