The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in a statement on Saturday, expresses deep concern and strongly condemns the armed aggression committed by the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, stating that the justifications advanced for these actions are untenable.
According to the statement, ideologically driven hostility has once again prevailed over pragmatic engagement and any willingness to build relations based on trust and predictability.
The ministry noted that under the present circumstances, it is imperative to prevent further escalation and to focus on achieving a settlement through dialogue. All parties must seek to resolve existing differences exclusively through political and diplomatic means, reiterating that the Russian Federation stands ready to support such efforts.
Latin America must remain a zone of peace, as proclaimed in 2014. Venezuela’s sovereign right to determine its own future must be fully respected, free from any external interference, particularly of a military nature. The statement added.
“The Russian Federation reaffirms its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and its support for the course pursued by the country’s Bolivarian leadership to safeguard national interests and sovereignty”.
“We support the calls by the Venezuelan authorities and leaders of Latin American states for the urgent convening of a meeting of the United Nations Security Council”.
The statement concluded that the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Caracas continues to operate normally, taking into account the situation on the ground, and remains in constant contact with the Venezuelan authorities and Russian nationals in Venezuela. (GSF)
