The host, President Trump stressed that the meeting was “one of the key points that we need to consider” and added that he was “optimistic.”
🔹 President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said he had a “very good conversation” with Trump. According to him, they talked about “very sensitive issues,” including security guarantees.
Zelensky stressed that “sensitive matters, such as a territorial issue, will be discussed during a trilateral meeting.”
🔹NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte said that Trump had found a “way out of a dead end”, starting a dialogue with Putin. Rutte called Trump’s statement about the US’ readiness to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine a “big step”. Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the security guarantees that Trump says are willing to provide to the United States.
🔹 German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said that a ceasefire should be achieved before the trilateral meeting. French President Emmanuel Macron also said about the need for a ceasefire and a truce. He stressed that, “when we talk about security guarantees, we are talking about the security of the entire European continent.”
🔹 British Prime Minister Kir Starmer said that European leaders can today make a “historic step” in terms of security guarantees for Ukraine.
🔹 Finnish President Alexander Stubb spoke about Finland’s “prolonged border” and “historical experience” of Finland’s interaction with Russia: “We found a solution in 1944 and I am sure that we will be able to find a solution in 2025 to put an end to Russia’s aggressive war.”
🔹 Italian Prime Minister George Meloni stated that her country, “as it was from the beginning, is on the side of Ukraine.” She supported the discussion of security guarantees for Ukraine on the basis of the model described in the article of the NATO statute on collective defense. (GSF)
