Ethiopia Imdicated Interest in Hosting Third Russia–Africa Summit — Foreign Ministry

Ethiopia has expressed interest in hosting the third Russia–Africa summit. This was discloaed by Ethiopia’s State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy, Hadera Abera Admassu, during a meeting with Russia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin on Friday.

“Abera also stressed Ethiopia’s interest in hosting the Russia–Africa summit and confirmed the country’s readiness to work jointly to ensure the successful hosting of the summit,” the statement said.

The state minister highly praised the dynamic development of Russian–Ethiopian relations, noting that the two sides continue to strengthen their partnership, particularly in the economic sphere.

Responding, Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin emphasised that Russia is steadily strengthening relations with Ethiopia through close coordination and co-operation. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and continental issues of mutual interest,” the release said.

In December 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a speech at the Russia–Africa ministerial conference that the third summit would take place in 2026.

In June last year, President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo said in an interview with African Initiative that hosting the Russia–Africa summit in Malabo would offer a number of advantages.

The first Russia–Africa summit was held in October 2019 in Sochi, co-chaired by the President of Russia and the Chairperson of the African Union, President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The second summit took place in August 2023 in St Petersburg.
