The Chinese and US delegations convened on Sunday morning for talks on economic and trade issues.

This is the latest round of talks held under the framework of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, following previous meetings in Geneva, London, Stockholm, Madrid, and Kuala Lumpur.

An important background for this round of consultations is that the US Supreme Court ruled on February 20 that certain tariffs imposed by the US are illegal, leading to a potential reset of US trade policy. In addition, the ongoing tensions in the Middle East add to the rising instability and uncertainty in the global economy. The China-US economic and trade consultations are of great importance not only to both countries but also to the stability and development of the global economy.

China’s position is clear in the face of this new round of consultations, which is to firmly defend its legitimate development rights, promote dialogue in a responsible manner to resolve differences, and take concrete actions to maintain the stability of the multilateral trading system and global trade order.
