During his meeting on Thursday with Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Wale Edun, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai stated that relations between China and Nigeria have entered a new phase of accelerated development, yielding tangible outcomes across multiple areas of practical cooperation.
Ambassador Yu noted that since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s successful visit to China last year, the two countries continued to deepen bilateral, economic and trade relations, stressing that Nigeria’s exports to China has recorded significant growth and demonstrated strong future potential.
He reaffirmed China’s readiness to further align development strategies with Nigeria, expedite the implementation of the zero-tariff policy for Nigerian exports, and inject fresh momentum into the China–Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In his remarks, Minister Edun commended the steady progress in Nigeria–China relations and cooperation, emphasising Nigeria’s strong interest in the early implementation of the zero-tariff policy and assured government’s commitment to sustained engagement with the Chinese side.
He reiterated Nigeria’s swift consensus on outstanding modalities, with a view to advancing long-term growth in bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Nigeria and China have over the years achieved rapid growth across all sectors and have supported each other on issues concerning common core interests and major concerns, while maintaining sound communication and coordination in global and regional affairs under a results-oriented approach. The two countries are setting an exemplary model for South-South cooperation. (GSF)
