China on Friday urged foreign politicians visiting Taiwan to immediately stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and to refrain from supporting “Taiwan independence” separatist activities.

Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s speech distorted facts, repeated the old rhetoric of “Taiwan independence,” and exposed his nature as a warmonger, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun when asked about Lai’s “Double Ten” speech at a routine press briefing in Beijing.

There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory, which is the true status quo across the Taiwan Straits, Guo said, adding that the biggest threats to the peace and stability of the Taiwan Straits are the separatist activities of “Taiwan independence” and external interference.

“The attempts by the authorities led by Lai to fabricate various lies to advance ‘independence’ by force and resist unification by force will only drag Taiwan island into the abyss of armed conflict,” said Guo.

“To maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, it is essential to uphold the one-China principle and take a clear stand against ‘Taiwan independence,’ as the Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair,” he said.

“Opposing ‘two Chinas’ or ‘one China, one Taiwan,’ and supporting China’s realization of complete reunification are obligations arising from the international community’s adherence to the one-China principle,” Guo emphasized.

Any attempt to distort historical facts and challenge UNGA Resolution 2758 constitutes a challenge not only to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but also to the authority of the United Nations and the post-World War II international order, representing a blatant reversal of history that is absurd and dangerous, he said.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan.

International legal instruments such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender confirm China’s sovereignty over Taiwan. Taiwan’s restoration to China is an important achievement of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

“China consistently opposes any form of official exchanges between countries having diplomatic relations with China and the Taiwan region, and advises the handful of foreign politicians who are visiting Taiwan to immediately stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and cease supporting ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities,” Guo stated.

Whether their erroneous words and actions are motivated by selfish interests or the sinister plot of “using Taiwan to contain China,” those politicians miscalculate and will surely be doomed to failure as China’s complete reunification is an irreversible trend, the spokesperson said. (PD/GSF)
