Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent warm congratulations to African heads of state and government on the occasion of the Africa Day celebration, praising the continent’s economic and social progress and its resilience against colonialism.
In a statement released through the Russian Embassy in Abuja, Putin noted that Africa is playing an increasingly significant role in addressing pressing issues on the international agenda.
“This day symbolises the victory of the African peoples over colonialism and their aspiration for freedom, peace, and prosperity,” Putin said.
He highlighted that constructive cooperation is expanding within the African Union and various subregional organisations, with mechanisms being developed for collective responses to local conflicts and crises, adding that integration and progress are being consistently advanced.
The Russian leader stressed that Moscow attaches great importance to strengthening its traditionally friendly ties with African states.
“We are united by the desire to build a just multipolar world based on genuine equality and the supremacy of international law, free from all forms of discrimination and diktat,” he stated.
Putin expressed confidence that the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to be held in Moscow in October, will open new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and African partners across multiple sectors. He added that he would be glad to welcome African leaders to the Russian capital for the summit. (GSF)
