Nigeria’s Telecommunications industry attracted more than $1 billion in capital investments throughout 2025, this was disclosed by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, on Thursday in his remarks at the release of the Q4 2025 Network Performance Reports.

According to Maida, the investment, which was the highest in history, resulted in the deployment of over 2,850 new network sites nationwide, significantly expanding both coverage and capacity across the country. He noted that the impact of the investments wss clearly reflected in the latest performance data released by the Commission.

“The data shows clear and steady improvements in network quality, particularly in median download speeds across both urban and rural areas, especially when compared to Q3 performance,” he said.

He added that the NCC has secured commitments from telecommunications operators to exceed their 2025 investment levels in 2026, signalling sustained momentum in infrastructure development.

He noted that the Commission looks forward to deeper collaboration with industry stakeholders as it works to translate data-driven insights into better connectivity, improved service quality and a more inclusive digital future for all Nigerians.

While acknowledging the progress recorded, the NCC chief admitted that challenges remain, particularly gaps in 5G services and inequalities in upload speeds.

He emphasized that the Commission is actively engaging operators to address these issues, including persistent gaps in mobile service coverage. (GSF)
