The China Mining Federation of Nigeria has dismissed allegations of Chinese infiltration, illegal mining and terrorism financing within Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

The Federation described the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja by the Federation, it faulted reports alleging Chinese nationals were engaging in illegal mining, resource seizure, environmental damage and activities undermining Nigeria’s development.

The Federation said Chinese mining companies in Nigeria strictly complied with Nigerian laws and regulations, operating in line with guidance from the Chinese Government and cooperating with relevant government departments.

It noted that the companies actively supported mining governance while responding to Nigeria’s industrial transformation needs through investments, establishment of local factories and employment of Nigerian workers.

According to the statement, the measures have boosted local employment, retained greater Added Value within Nigeria and transformed mineral resources into tangible economic development dividends.

The Federation added that Chinese mining companies gave back to host communities, fulfilled social responsibilities and protected the natural environment, contributing positively to China–Nigeria mining cooperation.

It stressed that allegations linking Chinese companies to terrorism were completely unfounded, noting that some firms had themselves been victims of terrorist activities in Nigeria.

The statement said the companies supported and remained willing to cooperate with the Nigerian government, to safeguard national security for a stable operating environment.

The Federation urged Nigerian media to report objectively and fairly, warning against spreading false information capable of undermining cooperation and friendship between both countries.

It reaffirmed readiness to work with the Nigerian government and stakeholders to deepen mining cooperation, support Nigeria’s economic and social development and deliver greater benefits to both nations. (GSF)
