Nigeria, China to Strengthen Cooperation in the Broadcasting Sector

The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Charles Ebube today received a high-level delegation from the China National Radio and Television Administration of China (NRTA) led by its Director General of NRTA, Mr. Shi Zhiyan.

The visit by the NRTA delegation was aimed to strengthen international collaboration in the broadcasting sector, featured extensive discussions on NBC’s regulatory functions, operational structures, and strategic priorities within Nigeria’s dynamic and diverse media landscape.

During the engagement, the NRTA delegation expressed strong interest in understanding Nigeria’s broadcasting ecosystem and exploring opportunities for cooperation with the NBC.

According to a statement on the verified NBC Facebook page, the Chinese delegation also extended an official invitation to the NBC Director General and members of the Board of Management to participate in upcoming seminars and exhibitions in China.

Both sides highlighted potential areas of partnership, including content development, co-production initiatives, technological innovation, capacity building for media professionals, and the exchange of global regulatory best practices.

In his welcome remarks to the delegation, NBC Director General Mr. Charles Ebuebu commended China’s significant technological advancements in the media sector. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to cultivating international partnerships that enhance quality, innovation, and competitiveness in Nigeria’s broadcast industry—particularly in areas such as online content monitoring and digital media development.

The visit underscored shared goals of strengthening cultural exchange, deepening media cooperation, and supporting the growth of Nigeria’s digital broadcast ecosystem. (GSF)
