Russian President Vladimir Putin will “in one way or another” take part in the G20 summit, which will be held on 21–22 November 2025 in Johannesburg. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists at a briefing.

“In one way or another he (Putin) will take part in the G20 in South Africa. In any case, the participation of the Russian side will be at the proper level and as active as possible. We are actively participating in all segments of the G20’s work,” TASS quoted Peskov as saying.

At the end of September, Russia’s G20 sherpa, Svetlana Lukash, said on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York that a decision on the format of the Russian delegation’s participation in the G20 summit had not yet been made.

During the same General Assembly session, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that Russia was counting on a “powerful signal” from the G20 summit in South Africa. END (African Initiative/GSF)
