The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya have commissioned electricity projects in the state under the ongoing rural electrification initiatives of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

In a statement, Tegbe said the projects included a solar mini-grid with a 2.4MWh battery energy storage system in Tallasse, serving 6,028 connections.
The Tallasse project serves 6,028 connections and is equipped with electric groundnut oil processing, rice milling and flour grinding facilities, as well as electric tricycles.

Tegbe said Tallasse and the wider Balanga Local Government Area had endured 17 years without electricity before the current administration initiated the project through the REA, in partnership with the Gombe State Government and a private developer.
Another project unveiled during the event was a 16MW network of four interconnected solar mini-grids across Dukku, Bajoga, Kumo and Kaltungo, designed to provide reliable electricity to homes, farms, markets and small businesses.

The minister said the projects demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving livelihoods through investments in rural electrification.
He noted that farmers would be able to process their produce closer to home, traders could preserve perishable goods, artisans could power their equipment, while young people would have greater opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods within their communities.
“As the projects become operational, they can strengthen public services, reduce dependence on costly self-generation and attract enterprise,” Tegbe said.

He urged residents of Tallasse and other beneficiary communities to protect the facilities against vandalism and criminal activities, stressing that the infrastructure was built for their benefit and for future generations.
The projects are parts of Federal Government’s interventions to strengthen electricity generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure across the country. (GSF)
