The Federal Government and the Lagos State Government have agreed to strengthen collaboration to address persistent electricity supply challenges affecting households, businesses and industries across the state.
The agreement was reached on Monday at a four-hour Ministerial Implementation Retreat on the Clean Lagos Electricity Market (CLEM), co-chaired by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, at Lagos House, Marina.

Speaking at the retreat, Tegbe underscored Lagos’ strategic position in Nigeria’s electricity market, stressing that stronger cooperation between the Federal and state governments was essential to achieving a more sustainable and reliable power supply.
He said the retreat was designed to move beyond discussions and establish concrete interventions capable of delivering measurable improvements in Lagos’ electricity market.
The Minister said the partnership with the Lagos State Government was also in line with the 24/7 Energy Zones pilot project approved by President Bola Tinubu, which seeks to provide stable and reliable electricity to key economic corridors.
“The pilot project will commence in Lagos and extend to the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano and Enugu–Port Harcourt corridors, providing a clear pathway to scale across Nigeria’s major commercial and industrial hubs,” Tegbe said.
In his remarks, Sanwo-Olu described the discussions as open and productive, saying the retreat provided an opportunity for stakeholders to confront challenges in the power sector and develop workable solutions.
He stressed that the success of the initiative would ultimately be measured by its impact on electricity consumers and residents, rather than by the resolutions reached at the meeting.
According to him, the collaboration is consistent with the Federal Government’s efforts to promote more reliable and sustainable electricity supply across the country, with Lagos playing a significant role because of its economic importance and high electricity demand.
The governor pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government to address persistent electricity supply challenges and build a more reliable power market in the state.
He also welcomed the participation of major institutions under the Ministry of Power, acknowledging their contributions towards improving electricity supply in Lagos.
Stakeholders at the meeting examined regulatory, technical, operational and market-related challenges affecting electricity supply in Lagos, while considering practical measures to improve reliability and expand access.
