The Federal Government remains committed to building a more reliable, sustainable and inclusive power sector that will create greater opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, stated this at the commissioning of a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid with 1.4MW battery storage in Oke-Oyi, Kwara State.
The project is expected to provide more reliable electricity to about 1,800 households and businesses in the area.
According to the Minister, the project was executed under the Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS), with support from the European Union, Germany through GIZ, UNICEF and other partners.
He said the scheme demonstrated how strong partnerships could mobilise private investment and expand sustainable energy access across underserved communities.
He said the mini-grid formed part of the growing portfolio of rural and off-grid electrification projects being delivered under the Renewed Hope Agenda, as the Federal Government continues to expand electricity access, strengthen energy security and advance Nigeria’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
The Minister emphasised that beyond providing electricity, the project would support more productive businesses, create greater opportunities for young people, improve livelihoods and strengthen the local economy.
