Participants of the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum are expected to gather in Cairo between 19th and 20th December to discuss trade, economic and investment co-operation.
In a statement by the Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the meeting is intended to give additional momentum to the development of Russia–Africa partnership and to contribute to “strengthening its strategic character”.
“There will be a ‘synchronisation of watches’ on the most pressing issues of the international and Russia–Africa agendas, with an emphasis on fully implementing the 2023–2026 Action Plan of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.
She noted that Special attention will be paid to developing relations in the trade, economic and investment spheres, and to discussing promising areas for further co-operation.”
Zakharova also stated that the conference will include a thematic event on economic and educational co-operation with the participation of relevant Russian and African ministries and agencies. According to Zakharova, the meeting will also aim to highlight the potential of trilateral co-operation between Russia, Egypt and Africa.
“The ministerial meeting in Cairo is a key event in Russia–Africa relations this year and an important stage in preparing for the third Russia–Africa Summit, scheduled for 2026,” she added.
The conference was originally planned for 18–19 November, but later the director of the Africa Partnership Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Tatyana Dovgalenko, announced that it had been postponed. In early December, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the event would take place on 19–20 December.
It will be recalled that the first ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum was held in Sochi on 9–10 November 2024. (GSF)
